Fireworks are Illegal in Foster City
The Foster City Police Department would like to remind everyone that fireworks are banned within the city limits.
The Uniform Fire Code adopted by the City of Foster City prohibits any type of fireworks within City limits, including the so-called “safe and sane” variety. The only permitted use of fireworks is for professional fireworks shows, like the one taking place at Ryan Park on the evening of the Fourth.
In 2006, eleven people died and an estimated 9,200 were treated in emergency departments for fireworks-related injuries in the United States. Fifty percent of those needing treatment were under the age of 15.
The Foster City Police Department will use a zero tolerance policy in the enforcement of all applicable Federal, State and local laws regarding the possession and/or use of any fireworks. This includes “safe and sane” fireworks that may have been purchased in nearby communities. Anyone caught in possession of, or using any firework device is subject to citation, and or arrest. Such violations can lead to fines and even imprisonment.
The Foster City Police Department is asking residents and visitors to play it safe this year by leaving the fireworks to the professionals. The community can viewa spectacular, professional fireworks display, sponsored by the Lions Club, at the annual 4th of July Celebration. The day long celebration will be held at Ryan Park (Shell Blvd and East Hillsdale Blvd) and will last between the hours of 9:15-9:45 p.m. (or when it gets dark enough) This event is free toeveryone and is a safe way to celebrate the holiday.
