The Foster City Police Department’s Community Academy is for you if you have ever thought about:
- Why police do what they do
- Wanting to learn how a police officer takes care of your community
- Wanting to experience what it is like to be a police officer
The Foster City Police Department is hosting the Community Police Academy, which takes a behind-the-scenes look of the Foster City Police Department. The five-class experience will educate community members, offer transparency about how the Foster City PD operates and the roles of the police officers that serve your community. Classes are taught by the members of our police department. Some of the topics covered are:
- Hiring and Police Officer Standards
- Patrol Officer Activities
- Dispatch
- How Police Conduct Investigations
- Policy & Procedures
- Officer Training
- The Justice System
- County Resources
- Police Technology

Tentative Course Schedule
There is no charge for the course and all classes will be conducted in person. You must be at least 18 years-old and either work or live in Foster City. The academy meets Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The dates are as follows:
- Date pending - Overview of the Foster City Police Department
- Date pending– Patrol Activities & Procedures of the FCPD
- Date pending – Roles of the Detective Bureau & District Attorney
- Date pending – Use of Force & Rapid response Incidents
- Date pending – Scenario Day & Graduation

We are always accepting applications and are currently working on scheduling the next academy. The academy is limited to 25 spaces and selected applicants should commit to attending all classes. This class is subject to cancellation if there is low enrollment.
