Community Police Academy Schedule
Class #1 – Overview of the Foster City Police Department
We will discuss the organizational chart of the Foster City Police Department, the specialty positions that help keep the community safe, the selection/hiring process and the different training each officer must complete to become a “solo beat” officer. We will also look at the ongoing training officers must complete to stay current with POST standards and how we recruit/retain officers in todays competitive environment.
Class #2 - Policies & Procedures
This class will look at Lexipol and some of the critical policies that the police department operates under. We will discuss use of force, pursuit driving, emergency responses, and other polices that are critical to keeping the community and its members safe. We will also discuss some of the technology the police department uses to solve cases and catch criminals.
Class #3 - Day in the Life of the Police Department
Join us for a discussion with officers, corporals, sergeants, dispatchers, and records personnel. Meet the members that make up your police department. Let them teach you about the calls they handle and how we all work as a team to keep everyone safe.
Class #4 - The Justice System & County Resources
Take a look into the justice system and see what happens after the arrest has been made and someone is booked into jail. Learn how the district attorney files cases and how those cases move through the court system. We will also facilitate a discussion with different agencies and resources in the county and learn how we all work together to keep San Mateo County a safe place to live.
