3 Vehicle vs. Bicycle Collisions
Contact: Captain Tracy Avelar, (650) 286-3300, tavelar@fostercity.org
On March 1, 2017, Foster City Police Department responded to reports of three separate minor collisions involving vehicles versus bicyclists. The collisions were unrelated and involved three different juveniles riding their bikes to Bowditch Middle School. The collisions occurred at different times and different locations as follows: Beach Park Boulevard and Shell Boulevard; the 900 block of Beach Park Boulevard; and on Flying Fish Street, between Plover and Surfperch Street. All three bicyclists suffered only minor injuries.
Foster City Police Department is still investigating all three incidents, so anyone with information on any of the collisions is encouraged to call the business line at (650) 286-3300.
Vehicle versus bicycle collisions are fairly unusual in Foster City, with only 12 in 2015 and 6 in 2016. However, today's incidents should serve as a reminder of the need to drive with caution, whether in a vehicle or on a bike. Drivers should be mindful that children will be riding bikes and walking to school during early morning hours. Parents should remind their children to ride their bikes in the direction of traffic, walk their bikes when crossing any streets, and to carefully cross driveways.
