Supportive Housing

House with people

Supportive Housing is defined on page G-4 of the Housing Element. It is defined by California Housing Element law as permanent rental housing linked to a range of support services designed to enable residents to maintain stable housing and lead fuller lives. The housing type targets persons with low incomes who have one or more disabilities, including mental illness, HIV or AIDS, substance abuse or other chronic health condition; or individuals eligible for services provided pursuant to the Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Services Act (Division 4.5 (commencing with Section 4500) or the Welfare and Institutions Code). This type of housing has no limit on length of stay and is linked to on-site or off-site services that assist the supportive housing resident in retaining the housing improving his or her health status, and maximizing his or her ability to live, and, when possible, work in the community.”

Foster City owns six units for which the first preference priority is for supportive housing. The City supports the development of supportive housing and seeks partnership opportunities with nonprofit providers. For nonprofits seeking to provide supportive housing in Foster City, please email housing@fostercity.org or see the flyer below in supporting documents.
