GENERAL INFORMATION

The City Clerk is the Elections Official for the City. The role of the City Clerk in legislative and elective processes requires neutrality and independence as key qualities in conducting the business of the Office. Elections include General Municipal Elections, Various Ballot Measures, the nomination process for Council Candidates, the Processing of Initiatives and Petitions, Referendums, Recalls, and Special Elections.

November 5, 2024 General Municipal Election

The City of Foster City holds at-large elections for its five city council seats in November of even numbered years. Council Members serve staggering four-year terms. The General Municipal Election on November 5, 2024 is being held for three City Council seats for full four-year terms ending 2028.

Campaign Disclosure Forms

The City of Foster City uses the online system NetFile for entering and disclosing candidate's statements. FPPC Campaign Finance Statements (Forms 460, 470, 496 and 497) must be filed electronically using the City's free NetFile electronic filing system. Electronic filing (e-filing) is mandatory for all campaign disclosure statements.

The official results will be certified by the County Chief Elections Officer on December 5, 2024.

What Are My Voting Options?

All registered voters will receive a vote-by-mail ballot. Voters can cast their ballots in person or drop off their completed ballots at any Vote Center in the county.

Foster City Vote Centers

  • Emergency Operations Center - 610 Foster City Blvd.
  • Community Center - 1000 E. Hillsdale Blvd.

Hours: November 2 to November 4, Daily, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Election Day, November 5, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Business License Tax Ballot Measure

On July 15, 2024 the City Council adopted a resolution ordering the submission to qualified voters of the City, a measure to amend the Business License Tax on the November 5, 2024 ballot.  In order to pass, the measure needs to be approved by a simple majority of voters. Voter Registration

Potential voters may register to vote online or through paper registration cards available at City Hall and the Post Office. You can also register to vote or update registration information at a Vote Center through Election Day. For more information, visit: smcacre.org/voter-registration.
