BIO
Jon Froomin has been affiliated with Foster City since 1972 when his family moved into the community. He has 36 years experience working with local governments, 30 of them as a member of the Foster City Police Department. Jon earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of San Francisco in Public Administration, with a concentration in Law Enforcement Leadership.
Jon is a product of Foster City schools and Foster City Troop 175, Little League and AYSO and received the City of Foster City Honors Award. He’s a past president of the Foster City Lions Club and has been recognized by Special Olympics Northern California and Special Olympics Southern California.
Jon and his wife Dana raised their three children in Foster City and they have all gone on to be successful and productive members of their communities.
Jon Froomin worked his way from a youth volunteer to Chief of Police. After serving his first 30 years with the Foster City Police Department, in 2013 he was selected by the City of Coronado to serve as this beach community’s Chief of Police where he served in that capacity for five years. Jon has a depth of experience in a wide range of police services and was known for his fiscal management, creative problem solving, and community engagement. Jon played vital roles in organizational change within law enforcement to respond to changing internal and external environments and expectations, including workforce expansion, downsizing, new program development and implementation, and departmental reorganization.
While serving the City of Coronado as its Police Chief, Jon was recognized by Learning for Life with its highest honor, the Spurgeon Award, for his commitment to the Exploring program. He also served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Learning for Life for San Diego and Imperial Counties. Jon was recognized by multiple Coronado Police employees for his commitment and the amount of progress he was able to accomplish during his tenure.
Jon has been known for his collaborative and engaging approach with the Foster City and Coronado communities. He worked with the Boy Scouts, school districts, United States Navy, allied agencies at all levels of government, community organizations, and leveraged these relationships to address community needs and shared interests.
