November 6, 2018 Election - General Information
Election night results
The election results will be posted on the San Mateo County Elections Division website at https://www.smcacre.org/november-6-2018-election-results, and updated per the schedule below.
- Please note that the results released at 8:05 pm on Election night will include only vote-by-mail ballots that have been counted (this preliminary number may be only a portion of vote-by-mail ballots received, not total vote-by-mail ballots received).
- The results released at 9:00 pm and each half hour after, will include electronic voting results from in-person voting at Vote Centers.
- Election night results will not include vote-by-mail ballots submitted on Election Day.
- The County will provide an estimate of how many total ballots have been received, and the results report will indicate how many ballots are included in the report.
The County’s Election results schedule is:
- Election Night: 8:05 p.m. – Vote by Mail Ballots (Partial results)
- Election Night: 9:00 p.m. and each half-hour until complete – Vote Center Ballots (All electronic voting results)
- Thursday, November 8 at 4:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, November 13 at 4:30 p.m.
- Friday, November 16 at 4:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, November 21 at 4:30 p.m. (if necessary)
The County’s deadline to certify the election results is December 6. Foster City’s reorganization City Council meeting to certify the November 6, 2018 Election results and install new Councilmembers is on Monday, December 10, 2018.
What are my voting options?
Vote Centers are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day, November 6.
Vote by Mail
You can vote and mail your ballot in the postage-paid return envelope on or before Election Day (your ballot must be postmarked by Election Day and received no later than 3 days after Election Day).
Ballots will be mailed starting 29 days before Election Day. If you do not receive a ballot, or need a replacement contact the San Mateo Registrar of Voters at (888) 762-8683
Drop-off Box
You can drop off your voted ballot at a Ballot Drop-off Box throughout San Mateo County starting 28 days before the election. There are two Ballot Drop-off boxes at 610 Foster City Blvd; one just outside City Hall, next the the mailbox, and one inside City Hall.
Vote in Person at a Vote Center
The Foster City Vote Center will be located at Recreation Center (Art Gallery) at 650 Shell Blvd. The Vote Center hours of operation are:

Tuesday, November 6 |
7 a.m. to 8 p.m. |
Vote Centers look and feel like polling places, but provide additional services and options for voters.
You can go to any Vote Center in San Mateo County to:
- Vote on an accessible voting machine or paper ballot
- Access multilingual election materials and receive assistance from English, Spanish, Chinese, Filipino or Korean speaking staff
- Drop off your ballot
- Receive a replacement ballot
- Register to vote or update registration information through Election Day

The City Clerk is the Elections Official for the City. Elections include General Municipal Elections, Various Ballot Measures, the nomination process for Council Candidates, the Processing of Initiatives and Petitions, Referendums, Recalls, and Special Elections
