Municipal elections in Foster City are scheduled on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of even-numbered years, to coincide with the Statewide General Election. On November 3, 2020 the City will hold an election for (3) three seats on the City Council.

RUNNING FOR CITY COUNCIL
Any member of the public who meets the requirements below may run for public office in the City of Foster City
- Be at least eighteen years of age
- Be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the State of California
- Be a registered voter of the City of Foster City
CANDIDATE FILING PERIOD
The regular filing period for candidates and measures was between July 13, 2020 and August 7, 2020.
WRITE IN CANDIDATE FILING PERIOD
Any person who wishes to be a write-in candidate and to have his/her name on the ballot of an election counted for a particular office shall file:
1. A statement of write-in candidacy shall contain the candidate's name, residence address, a declaration stating that he/she is a write-in candidate, the title of the office for which he/she is running, the date of the election; and
2. The requisite number of signatures on the nomination paper for that office.
The statement and nomination paper shall be filed with the City Clerk during normal working hours commencing September 7, 2020 and no later than 5:00 p.m. on October 20, 2020 (the 14th day prior to the Election).
