Enhanced Pedestrian Safety Crosswalk System (CIP 301-680)
Project Description:
The Enhanced Pedestrian Safety Crosswalk System Project was developed through recommendations from the Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Intersection Evaluation Study – Phase 1 (CIP 301-664). The Study was conducted to assess current conditions and provide traffic improvement recommendations.
CIP 301-680 will install pedestrian-activated rapid rectangular flashing beacons (RRFBs) at Beach Park Boulevard and Halibut Street and Beach Park Boulevard and Teal Street Intersections. These RRFBs emit flashing yellow warnings to drivers that have been shown to increase driver-yielding behavior when supplementing standard pedestrian crossing warning signs and pavement markings.
