In October 2016, Foster City partnered with Scoop Technologies to bring a first-of-its-kind program aimed to decrease the amount of cars on the road and lessen the traffic burdens of commuters going to and from Foster City. Since launching in October, over 2000 people have signed up to use Scoop for their commute in and out of Foster City saving over 225,000 pounds of CO2 and reducing almost 10,000 vehicle trips.
On Monday, March 6, 2017, the City Council of Foster City approved to extend the partnership between the City and Scoop Technologies. Foster City will continue to offer discounted rides to all travelers who commute in and out of Foster City using the Scoop app, further helping to reduce traffic congestion.
"What a phenomenal program this has been and the success has been beyond what I had anticipated. I think it is critical for us to keep the momentum going," said Foster City Vice Mayor Sam Hindi. Mayor Charlie Bronitsky said, "Many times with issues like traffic we have residents and businesses come to us and tell us that traffic is terrible. Often times these issues are regional, but through Scoop we've been able to make a difference on a local level."
Commuters can schedule carpools using Scoop and save between 33% and 50%. Participation in the program is easy once a commuter downloads the app here or from the iOS or Android app stores.
Getting commuters to carpool has historically been difficult, but Scoop makes the process easy, efficient, and flexible through their application. Since launching in 2015, Scoop has become the area's leader in carpooling. To date, commuters have taken more than 500,000 Scoop trips, offsetting 5 million commute miles and lowering carbon emissions by 4 million pounds.
What makes Scoop special is its partnership-drive approach to solving the problem of traffic congestion. Scoop partners with major employers, office parks and local governments through the Bay Area to offer employees an affordable and effective transportation solution. Scoop also partners with public organizations such as Bay Area MTC, 511, and commute.org.
