Time of a Vision - December 28, 2016

In looking at 2016 in the rearview mirror, so to speak, I note how fortunate our City is to have responsive, knowledgeable people working to maintain our living standard in Foster City. I personally thank all of the City staff, Police Department, and Fire Department members with whom I have worked over the past year for their patience and flexibility. We have a terrific and talented group of people working to maintain our City’s infrastructure and reputation as the jewel of the Peninsula.

Next year brings new challenges, and I look forward to facing those challenges with all of you. In 2017, we will implement our plan to provide opportunities for small- and medium-sized businesses to become successful and provide residents with a variety of needed services, as well as to increase our tax base. I am hopeful that we will be able to encourage more diversity in restaurant choices and entertainment, and creating more jobs within our City for our residents.

One initiative I plan to champion next year is a series of workshops and meetings involving you to discuss land use in Foster City. I would like to hear your idea and vision about the future of our City. I want your input to make informed, smart choices about housing, parks, activity areas, open spaces, and other aspects of land use. We need to have a frank conversation about the future of Foster City, and I look forward to it.

Also in 2017, we will make a financially-responsible decision on the future of our Recreation Center. The Center provides a number of public services and also serves as an emergency shelter in disaster situations. Whether we decide to remodel or rebuild, this is an exciting opportunity for us to expand the Center’s services and make it useful for more residents and an attraction for activities from sources outside of the City, as well.

My commitment to Foster City continues. I will continue to listen to you and be your voice on the Council.

As always, you may contact me at cmahanpour@fostercity.org. I am open to all comments. Happy Holidays, and I hope you all have a wonderful and safe New Year!
