THE PEOPLE'S CHAMBERS

December 18, 2019

Thank you to my colleagues for the vote of confidence to serve as your Mayor. It is a responsibility I take very seriously.

My message to the residents of Foster City is simple.  This is not just the Council Chambers.  It’s the People’s Chambers.  You elected us to do this job, to do what’s best for you and our beloved Foster City.  Working together, we will make these Chambers a safe place for you, our residents, to come and speak your mind.  Our job is to listen respectfully, actively, and with an open mind. Then, we will deliberate with each other, in public, and, again, respectfully, and make decisions that reflect your voice and the best interests of our City.

To that end, while I am Mayor, I will expect us as a City Council to listen to you with respect.  Our meetings and deliberations with each other will be open, with opinions given freely, but respectfully, without insults thrown at differing opinions.  Our meetings will be run more efficiently, with discussions staying on topic.

We, as a City Council must work together to face the challenges we will encounter next year.  Many important projects will be started or continued in 2020 – the levee improvements, the wastewater treatment plant, infrastructure improvements, traffic programs, to name just a few.  We also face the housing crisis and legislation from the State forcing us to make decisions we may not want to make, as well as economic development issues.  We will face these challenges together, with your help and support. Our Chambers are open to you.

All that being said, I want to thank you for your support and passion for Foster City.  I thank my husband for his patience and my friends who have become like family.  I look forward to working with all of you next year to make Foster City THE place to be!
