DEFINITION: |
Provides support for the essential operations of the Recreation Division with an emphasis on facility operations, special events, and special assignments as required. Performs physical set-up arrangements for classes, meetings, activities, public and private functions in community buildings, assures security of buildings, provides public information about recreation activities. |

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS, FEATURES, REQUIREMENTS: |
This is a part-time, entry level classification. |
|
SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED: |
Receives and responds to written and verbal direction from the Building Services Coordinator, Recreation Coordinator, and Recreation Manager on a daily basis regarding tasks, program activities, and security issues. |
|
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES: |
Works in cooperation with the Building Services Coordinator to assist with building audits, light maintenance and janitorial, and Recreation Division support. Retrieves, moves, sets up, cleans, removes, and returns to storage all chairs, tables, and equipment within a variety of locations. Locks buildings and internal storage facilities; provides Department coverage during evening and some special events; provides front desk phone assistance, public information, and assists with walk-in payments. |

OTHER JOB-RELATED DUTIES: |
Monitors facilities for clean and stocked bathrooms, garbage/trash overflow, vandalism, and non-permitted use. Updates public announcement board, regularly updates community posting board, displays/posts all Department flyers/posters. Closes/locks park bathrooms; performs monthly park light checks, and reports to Recreation Manager. Performs some maintenance and janitorial tasks at recreation facilities (e.g., kitchens, carpets, windows, tables, and chairs). Attends meetings and trainings as required. |

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: |

Knowledge of: event and program coordination; recreation services goals and objectives. |
|
Skill in: performing minor maintenance/janitorial tasks; organizing storage facilities; completing necessary audits and appropriate reports. |

Ability to: provide clear verbal information and respond to public inquiries; complete routine forms and reports; lift and move equipment weighing up to 40 pounds; follow written and oral instructions and execute detailed facility set ups and special projects with minimal direct supervision. |

EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be: |

Education: completion of the tenth grade or equivalent. |
|
Experience: providing public services, information, or directions; performing group function arrangements or coordination is desirable. |
|
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: |
Ability to safely lift, move and store chairs, tables, and equipment up to 40 lbs.; work under minimal direct supervision; work flexible hours; remain calm and use good judgement in difficult and emergency situations; provide courteous public service; drive a car/van to other City facilities. |

Licenses: Possession of a valid State of California Class “C” License and a good driving record. Driving record is subject to initial and periodic review. |
