DEFINITION: |
This is a full-time position that performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on municipal buildings, facilities, and equipment in the Building Maintenance Division. |

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS, FEATURES, REQUIREMENTS: |
This position is the journey level class in the Building Maintenance Worker series. This class is distinguished from the Building Maintenance Worker I in that it makes operational decisions in the field. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the lower class of Building Maintenance Worker I or, when filled from the outside, require prior building maintenance experience. |

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED: |
Receives general supervision and direction from the Building Lead Maintenance Worker and Building and Vehicle Maintenance Manager. Provides basic instruction and direction to other team members in executing the basic tasks involved in carrying out assignments. |

IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES: |
General duties include, but are not limited to, the following: - performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled plumbing, carpentry, painting and electrical activities associated with the maintenance and repair of City facilities
- installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing systems and plumbing fixtures such as faucets, sinks, toilets and water heaters
- performs carpentry on City buildings
- repairs doors, windows, floors (including tile and carpet), gates, roofs, and ceilings
- repairs, installs, and constructs furniture, shelves, cabinets, countertops, and other wood equipment and fixtures including platforms and temporary staging
- paints City facilities, equipment and furniture - prepares surfaces for painting; applies paint to building interiors, fixtures, equipment or exteriors; strips, paints and/or stains cabinets, doors, and woodwork
- performs electrical repair and maintenance tasks involving City facilities - repairs, replaces, and maintains electrical wiring, fuses, switches, motors, generators, lighting systems, and other electrical fixtures and equipment; installs conduits, wires, pull boxes, and switches required in making additions, extensions, or alterations in electrical systems; and identifies damaged or worn electrical components and takes corrective action as assigned
- performs general building maintenance duties - sets up and takes down facilities in support of the facilities rental program; cleans facilities including bathrooms, kitchens and floors; and services, inspects, and performs minor repairs of electrical and HVAC systems
- maintains records of activities including preventative maintenance services and service requests
- operates hand and power tools
- works with chemicals including cleaning products, solvents, glues, etc.
- works cooperatively and effectively with contractors, the public and co-workers
- performs related work as required

EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be: |

Education: Completion of the twelfth grade or the equivalent, supplemented by specialized training in maintenance, construction, or facilities maintenance. |
|
Experience: Two (2) years of full time experience in general maintenance, construction, or facilities maintenance. |
|
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATION: |
|
Licenses: Possession of a valid California Class “C” Driver’s License and maintaining the license and a good driving record. |
