As Halloween approaches, the Foster City community is reminded to drive safely, take extra precautions, and keep an eye out for friends and neighbors who are trick or treating. To assure a safe and healthy holiday, the Foster City Police Department is offering the following tips:

  • Drivers should slow down and watch out for children who may dart out into the street suddenly or be experiencing limited vision due to wearing masks or costumes. Keep your eyes on the road and do not allow your phone to be a distraction.
  • Drivers are advised to use additional caution in residential areas and take extra time to look for trick or treaters before entering intersections, driveways, or other areas occupied by pedestrians. Inexperienced drivers should avoid getting behind the wheel on Halloween.
  • Trick or treaters should travel in groups, under adult supervision, and use flashlights, reflective material, or some other form of illumination to enhance their visibility.
  • Pedestrians should be mindful to stay on the sidewalks and use crosswalks at intersections to avoid potential conflicts with motorists or bicyclists. Look twice when crossing the street, and do not run into the street.
  • Residents welcoming trick or treaters should keep their homes well-lit to enhance visibility and reduce trip or fall hazards.

“Halloween is a special holiday in Foster City, and we encourage everyone to celebrate in a safe and responsible fashion,” said Police Chief Tracy Avelar. “By following these simple tips, Foster City residents can help protect themselves, their families, and their neighbors.”
