Recreation Center Conceptual Design Review

The City Council will hold a special meeting on October 29, 2018, where the public will have its first opportunity to view the three draft Recreation Center Conceptual Design Plans which are currently under development by the City’s consultant, Burks Toma Architect. This is a major milestone in the project timeline as it provides a “first look” at how the Recreation Facility may someday integrate into and contribute to the Foster City community.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend this meeting on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 6:30 PM in the City Council Chambers, 620 Foster City Boulevard. Burks Toma Architects will present draft versions of its three conceptual designs, which have been developed based upon public input and the pre-design data and related findings that have been reviewed and approved by the City Council in previous meetings.
Final conceptual designs along with detailed analysis of the estimated cost of construction, maintenance, operations and programming for the three options are scheduled to be complete by the end of November 2018.
The William E Walker Recreation Center in Leo J. Ryan Memorial Park was opened to the public in 1974. The current need for significant structural upgrades and repairs to this aging facility has dictated the timing to evaluate the best and highest use of the facility and its immediately surrounding park amenities. In order to gather the information necessary for making a decision about the project, the City completed a Community Input Study between October 2016 and April 2017. The City awarded a contract to Burks Toma Architects to develop a Recreation Center Conceptual Design Plan in March 2018.
