On Saturday morning, September 14, 2019, Mayor Sam Hindi hosted a Town Hall Meeting to celebrate the successes and progress of Foster City in the past fiscal year, as well as to discuss with community members the ongoing challenges in relation to traffic, aging infrastructure, and housing (amongst a few). He focused on the vision for Foster City looking onward and for a sustainable future with long-term financial stability.

Mayor Hindi reflected on the past year’s milestones and noteworthy achievements. Of this, it included the City’s investment in infrastructure and public safety such as the Wastewater Treatment Plant improvements to new bicycle lanes down the City’s main corridor. He also mentioned the City’s commitment to economic vitality through business promotion programs such as “Support Local: Get It Here” and the Commercial Façade Improvement Program. The City was acknowledged as being an emerging leader in sustainability, in part to the City’s efforts but mainly due to the community’s pledge in such.

At the Town Hall Meeting, Mayor Hindi also presented the City’s annual Community Report for FY 2018-2019, which provided a more comprehensive snapshot into initiatives and successes from the past fiscal year. “I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished and hope that you, as members of this great community, are too.” said Mayor Hindi. The Community Annual Report is now available on the City website at www.fostercity.org/communityannualreport2018-2019.

The Mayor opened up the Town Hall Meeting to questions and comments from the 60 plus attendees. The dialogue was lively and respectful, and included topics and questions about housing, traffic, the levee, and many others.

To address the City’s current and anticipated challenges, Mayor Hindi shared the seven priority focus areas in which the City Council had established as its framework for allocating resources to over the next two fiscal years. More information on the focus areas can be found at www.fostercity.org/focusareas

“The Town Hall Meeting allowed us to discuss some of the challenges we are faced with, but also the opportunities we have to be innovative with our solutions. More importantly, I believe it gave us an opportunity to gain perspective – on both sides, and to have an open & honest dialogue with one another,” said Mayor Sam Hindi. “I am looking forward to more conversations like these. It is a step in the right direction and I am optimistic that we will continue to prosper as a City with the guidance of the City Council and the involvement of an informed and engaged community.”
