The City of Foster City will cut the ribbon on their new outdoor Fitness Court® in Shorebird Park, joining National Fitness Campaign (NFC) in their effort to make world-class fitness free and accessible in public spaces.
Invented by NFC, the Fitness Court is an outdoor bodyweight circuit training gym, featuring all-level workouts that can be completed in just 7 minutes a day. This state-of-the-art facility will soon be available for public use in Shorebird Park, suitable for adults (14+) of all fitness abilities and completely free of cost. By pairing the Fitness Court with its free mobile app, users can take classes, learn workout routines, and get fit — all in their own local park!
“Shorebird Park was developed with a commitment to the community to continue to enhance the park, reflective of its use. The additions of art sculptures, shade structure, Cypress trees, and now the Fitness Court enhance the park use and provide a convenient stop off for Bay Trail users”, said Foster City’s Parks and Recreation Director Jennifer Liu.
The Foster City Fitness Court is part of a nationwide effort launched by National Fitness Campaign to get people excited about health and wellness. In 2018, 100 select communities were invited to join the campaign and Foster City was selected based on its continued dedication to adding public resources for the betterment of its residents.
“This addition to the Park System will provide a valuable resource for healthy living for all residents in our community, regardless of income level, which aligns with the City’s goal in promoting social equity,” said Liu.
On Saturday, April 27 at 11:00 am, all residents, local businesses, and media outlets are invited to test out the new facility and its matching mobile app during a free-to-attend Launch Party event! Attendees will be taught to use the Fitness Court effectively through a series of express group classes and demonstrations. The event will also feature a quick Fitness Court Challenge and healthy snacks from local vendors. Athletic wear is encouraged, and all those interested in attending, should RSVP at: https://www.facebook.com/events/1031598050374146/.
