Grow fruit, vegetables, flowers, and community by joining Foster City’s first-ever Community Garden. Foster City residents born with a green thumb or those with a sprouting interest in learning to grow and harvest are invited to apply for a plot in the garden located on the property of the United Island Church at 1130 Balclutha Drive. The garden is a collaborative initiative operated by the Foster City Community Garden Association, with support from the City of Foster City, the United Island Church, and Foster City Rotary Club.

The cost for a 32-square-foot plot is $150 for one year, plus a $50 refundable deposit, and applications are due Friday, February 21. There are 16 plots currently available, and if interest exceeds capacity, a lottery will be held to select plot holders. The garden will open on Tuesday, April 1. See the plot application, garden policy and regulations, as well as more information about the Community Garden program at www.fostercity.org/communitygarden.

“We are quite excited Foster City residents will have the opportunity to join the Community Garden,” said Parks and Recreation Director Derek Schweigart. “This will be a space where residents can come together and build community through the shared the joy of gardening while also nourishing the environment and enhancing Foster City’s sustainability.”

Those interested will be expected to review all policies and regulations prior to applying, while also signing a waiver of liability along with submitting a plot payment.
