Foster City Launches New Website

On March 5, 2018, the City of Foster City launched its new, user-friendly, and mobile-friendly website – www.fostercity.org. The website’s navigation and content is designed to help users easily access information about the City, request services, and interact with City staff.
"Continuing the Council's priority of public engagement and in our effort to streamline the process of accessing information by the public, we are excited to launch our redesigned City website. Staff has incorporated the feedback received from the public in the new website.” said Mayor Sam Hindi. The City recognized the need to modernize its website to meet the needs of the public and adapt to the constantly changing technology landscape. Input was taken by multiple stakeholders in order to develop a design that focuses on the user experience.
One of the many features implemented on the new website is a redesigned navigation system. The Information Technology and Communications Divisions leading this project, took into consideration web pages users frequent often and developed a navigation system that is faster and easier. Another method of finding topics of interest is by using the new robust search function. This improved version uses a new search algorithm that identifies key topics users are searching for and organizes the results by importance.
As mobile devices are increasingly becoming the main form of internet access, the website also provides scalability and improved functionality for smartphone and tablet users. An additional feature includes improved website accessibility in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). These enhancements reinforce the City’s commitment to an accessible and transparent government.
As the Information Technology Advisory Committee (ITAC) City Council liaison, Vice Mayor Gary Pollard said, "I am very excited to see Foster City's new look and fresh designed website. Today, it's vital to meet the needs of our residents. Great work by our City staff to accomplish this task."
The City of Foster City continues to provide up to date and relative information to the public with the goal of offering easy access to services 24/7 for the convenience of those who may not be able to visit City Hall.
