With an inability to accommodate large crowds in Leo Ryan Park due to construction of the Foster City Community Center, the City of Foster City has decided to postpone the Fourth of July fireworks show in 2025. A variety of daytime events will still take place in Foster City to celebrate Independence Day on Friday, July 4 – including the Rotary Club pancake breakfast, live music performances, and Family & Dog Parade – but programming will culminate by 4 p.m., hours prior to the traditional nighttime fireworks display over the Lagoon.
This year’s modified Fourth of July celebration will again be held in Leo Ryan Park, but a central portion of the area will be restricted to public access due to construction of the Foster City Community Center. With a significant segment of the park fenced off, there is less space available for the large crowds that typically congregate in the evening hours to enjoy the fireworks show. As a result, the City determined it is preferable to postpone the fireworks show until the park and surrounding areas are again adequately suited to host this popular event.
“While we are disappointed that the fireworks show will be postponed this year, our top priority is the health and safety of our community and City staff. And without adequate space to safely accommodate the large crowds that typically gather to watch the fireworks, we believe this difficult decision is in everyone’s best interest,” said Mayor Stacy Jimenez. “But once the new Foster City Community Center is complete, we look forward to welcoming the community back in an even more amazing setting to once again celebrate this wonderful holiday.”
Other community events traditionally hosted at Leo Ryan Park will be held as planned this year though construction of the Community Center – though there may be modifications to some programming and features. More information about celebrations such as Fourth of July, Summer Days, and other community events, will be available in greater detail over the coming months.
