Foster City Councilmembers, officials, and staff joined representatives of SummerHill Homes, HIP Housing, the Foster City Chamber of Commerce, and others to celebrate the grand opening of the 22 workforce housing apartments at ‘The Pilgrim’ in the Pilgrim Triton neighborhood.
The ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 13, at 5:30 p.m., recognized the years of planning and collaboration that brought to fruition the vision to provide affordable workforce housing for those who wish to live in the community they serve.
“We are so thrilled to honor the years of determination and teamwork that made this unique collaboration between the City and the developer possible,” said Community Development Director Marlene Subhashini. “This landmark effort not only reinforces the City’s commitment towards its employees, disaster service workers, first responders, teachers, and others by creating affordable housing options for them, but also showcases Foster City’s past and current leadership in addressing our region’s affordable housing needs.”
The 22 workforce housing units were developed as part of Phase C of the Pilgrim Triton Master Plan and constructed by SummerHill Homes. Along with construction of 70 market-rate units, SummerHill Homes constructed the 22 workforce units and agreed to convey both the workforce apartments and the land on which the development was built to the City at a cost to the City of $7 million to both satisfy the developer’s affordable housing obligations as well as provide an important community benefit to the City.
In August of 2022, Foster City purchased 22 workforce housing units in the Pilgrim Triton neighborhood, located at 501 Pilgrim Drive. The first residents in the new apartments began moving in on September 1st.
