Foster City is excited to collaborate with San Mateo County Libraries to offer six new eBook Stops, making thousands of eBooks available for free across the City in just a few easy steps with a wireless device. Simply visit an eBook Stop, use the free wi-fi to connect to the library webpage, and then begin browsing popular titles.

These new eBook Stops in Foster City are located at: the William E. Walker Recreation Center, the ViBE Teen Center, Sea Cloud Park, Edgewater Park, and Port Royal Park.

Even without a library card, all residents can use the eBook Stop to begin reading immediately or save the book to read later. And the eBook Stop collection is constantly updated to include new popular adult, teen, and children's titles, as well as a variety of other options.

eBook Stops are powered by a small device that generates a wi-fi network. When connected to its network, users can download and read eBooks curated by San Mateo County Libraries. Only a mobile device (smartphone, tablet, or laptop) that can connect to a network is necessary, and a few minutes to browse and download your books.

How to use an eBook Stop:

  1. Visit one of the Foster City locations with an eBook Stop.
  2. Look for the blue “eBook Stop” signs.
  3. Access the wi-fi connections on your phone or tablet.
  4. Select the network called eBook Stop from the list of available networks on the device.
  5. Visit smcl.org/eBookStop in the browser, accept the Terms and Conditions, and tap “Go” to start browsing.
  6. A book can also be downloaded by clicking “Offline Access” at the top of the menu on the site. Users will also get a message while browsing through a book with instructions on downloading it and bookmarking it in their browser.

This collaborative initiative is brought to residents by the Foster City Parks and Recreation Department and San Mateo County Libraries to expand access to books throughout the community and share the joy of reading.
