Loud or Barking Dogs
Barking dogs bring almost daily complaints to the Foster City Police Department, particularly in warm weather when windows are open. The Police Department will investigate all barking dog complaints. Owners of barking dogs may be in violation of the city's noise ordinance. This is a class one misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and/or up to one year in jail. In addition to being against the law it is extremely inconsiderate to allow your dog or dogs to bark when unnecessary. If your dog is barking investigate the cause. Before reporting a dog that barks loudly and frequently first try to contact the dog's owner. For more information call (650) 286-3300 or email police@fostercity.org.
Pooper Scooper Law
City law requires that the owner, keeper or walker of any dog immediately remove the dog's excrement from public or private property other than the dog owner's property. This can be accomplished easily with a newspaper when the dog appears ready. Violation of this ordinance could result in a fine of up to $50. Although this is a misdemeanor police cannot issue a summons unless they actually view the offense. Any citizen who sees a violation can request that a summons be issued for the offender.
The City has installed plastic bag dispensers at city key locations including the PedWay and the Dog Park.
