On Saturday, October 23, Foster City will come together to improve the local community as part of National Make a Difference Day. The event held annually on the fourth Saturday of October is intended to unify communities through promoting the spirit of volunteerism, community service, and selflessness.
In preparation for the event, the City of Foster City is seeking local organizations, businesses, nonprofit groups, clubs, and others to identify community service projects that can be completed as part of National Make a Difference Day. Examples of potential projects include a having trash pickup day, hosting a tree planting event, holding a canned food drive, or collecting recyclables to raise funds for a good cause. There is no project too big or small to be considered, as long as the effort involves volunteers and benefits the Foster City community.
Local groups or organizations are invited to register their community service projects by Friday, October 15, at https://forms.gle/b9gpZ6KTNcQ2G8Xb6. Once a list of projects is compiled, the opportunities will be shared with Foster City community members who can select which effort they would like to contribute to. Ultimately, the City of Foster City hopes to pair interested volunteers with community service organizations for projects that will improve the local quality of life. Once volunteers have been identified, organizers will be solely responsible for managing and completing the project. Also, for any project that takes place on City property or private property, the event organizer will need to obtain proper authorization prior to submitting their event/activity.
“Community service and volunteerism are core values in Foster City, and we are excited to put our commitment to those principles on display for National Make a Difference Day,” said Interim City Manager Kevin Miller. “We encourage local businesses, service clubs, and organizations to join this effort by identifying projects that will help bring our community together for a good cause.”
