For immediate release: January 29, 2023

Contact: Community Development Department – Planning Division, planning@fostercity.org, (650) 286-3225

Foster City is in the process of comprehensively overhauling its Sign Ordinance to add greater clarity and direction to applicants seeking a sign permit in the City. In the interest of shaping these changes most effectively, the City is seeking your input and insights via online surveys designed specifically for residents or members of the local business community. Visit https://engagefostercity.org/sign-ordinance-update to participate in either the survey or to find out more about the Sign Ordinance Update. The deadline to participate in the surveys is Monday, February 19.

A sign ordinance is a set of regulations and rules established by local government authorities to control and manage the placement, size, design, and maintenance of signs in the community. The regulations help balance the interests of businesses and property owners with the need to preserve the visual character and safety of a community. See the current Sign Ordinance here: https://www.codepublishing.com/CA/FosterCity/html/FosterCity15/FosterCity1512.html#15.12 . The Sign Ordinance regulates commercial and non-commercial temporary signs including signs placed during election season.

Community members interested in learning more about the Sign Ordinance Update may utilize the meeting hours the City has set up for this topic and schedule an appointment with Senior Planner James Atkins. Mr. Atkins will be available Tuesday-Thursday, between 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at City Hall until Thursday, February 22, and can be contacted at jatkins@fostercity.org to schedule an appointment.
