The City of Foster City will host a hybrid Resilient & Sustainable Foster City Community Workshop on Thursday, January 12, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM in the Lagoon Room at the Foster City Recreation Center, 650 Shell Blvd, Foster City. This will be the first community workshop focused on raising awareness of the Climate Action Planning process and asks community members to envision a sustainable, resilient, and equitable Foster City. Registration is required at https://tinyurl.com/4nsa9uk3.
The Resilient & Sustainable Foster City Community Workshop is a hybrid, interactive event, allowing community members to attend in person or online via Zoom. Everyone is invited to learn about the City’s sustainability efforts, collaborate with friends and neighbors, and get involved in the Climate Action Planning process. “Workshops like these allow our community to help shape the future of Foster City as we collectively address the effects of climate change,” said Councilmember Sam Hindi, the City Council liaison to Foster City’s Citizens Sustainability Advisory Committee. “Foster City has always been a leader in sustainability, including our work on the Levee Improvements Project. I encourage anyone who lives, works, or plays in Foster City to attend so your voice can be heard.”
Foster City is updating its Climate Action Plan (CAP), first adopted in 2016, and seeks community input and participation in its process and development. The CAP is Foster City’s plan to reduce its contribution to climate change while addressing the current and future impacts climate change has on Foster City. The City has already taken steps to be a leader in sustainability through some of its initiatives, such as adding solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations to the Library/Community Center parking lot, installing low-flow faucets and lower energy lights, transitioning to low-water-usage landscapes in parks, and adopted the most current green building standards for new construction and remodels, to name a few.
