If you operate a boat in the Foster City Lagoon, now is the time to take the next step in safety.

From August 3 through October 31, 2020, Foster City residents can enter a free drawing to win $75 in vouchers to their choice of participating Stamp Me restaurants or for rental of equipment from California Windsurfing just for having a valid California Boater Card. Entry form and full program details are available at www.fostercity.org/lagoonsafety.

California Boater Cards are available from the California Department of Boating and Waterways and signify that the holder has completed a boater safety course.  Depending upon the instructor chosen, classes can be free. Learn more at https://californiaboatercard.com/.

Foster City’s lagoon has long been an ultimate recreational venue for both swimmers and all types of watercraft –sailboats, electric boats, kayaks, peddleboats, paddleboards and windsurf.  Since the Shelter-in-Place order went into effect in March 2020, the City has observed an upswing in activity on the lagoon and has heard of some “near misses” between boats and swimmers.  Since the lagoon is a shared use area, with boating, swimming and fishing, the City of Foster City wants to make sure that all users stay safe.
