Notice of Upcoming Planning Commission Vacancy

The City of Foster City is accepting applications from residents interested in serving on the Planning Commission to fill one new full term from June 1, 2017 to May 31, 2021. Applications will be accepted until Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 5:00 PM.

The Planning Commission consists of five residents of Foster City. To be eligible to apply, a resident must be at least eighteen years old and must have continuously resided in the city for a period of at least three years immediately prior to submission of an application for appointment to the Planning Commission. Community involvement in Foster City and relevant experience will be considered in evaluating applicants. Appointments are made by the City Council. Planning Commissioners are compensated $269 per month and are eligible to participate in the City's health benefits plan. 

Interested residents may apply by submitting an application form to the City Clerk stating qualifications including length of residence, community involvement, relevant experience, and objectives for desiring to become a member of the Planning Commission. Application forms are available at City Hall, by calling 286-3250, or by downloading the application form at www.fostercity.org. 

Applications may be hand-delivered, mailed, emailed or faxed to the City of Foster City, Attention: City Clerk, 610 Foster City Boulevard, Foster City, CA 94404; clerk@fostercity.org; fax 650-286-2552 on or before the due date. All interviews and appointment will be made by the City Council at its regular meeting of Monday, May 15, 2017. Applicants attending the May 15, 2017 Council Meeting will be considered for appointment to the Planning Commission that evening.

The commission reviews land use and development permits (use permits, architectural review permits, subdivisions, etc.) for consistency with the goals and policies of the Foster City General Plan, and the development standards of the Foster City Municipal Code. The Planning Commission provides recommendations to the City Council on General Plan amendments and rezoning requests, and provides direction to the Community Development Department. 

All applicants are invited to attend a Planning Commission meeting during which Planning Commissioners will be available to discuss the purpose and responsibilities of the Commission. The Planning Commission meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday's of each month beginning at 7 pm and on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month as necessary for Study Sessions.

Appointees must file a Statement of Economic Interests form with the City Clerk within thirty (30) days of assuming office, as mandated by California State Law.
