Thank You, Frontline and Essential Workers!
Being a frontline and/or essential worker during this pandemic means potentially exposing themselves and their families to COVID-19 while performing their job duties. Essential workers are having to deal with new stresses of adding social distancing measures to their jobs, shifting work hours, changing childcare needs with school closures among many other challenges, all while serving our community during this stressful time. They are making sure that there is food, water, electricity, trash and sanitation services, and health care services.
Please join us in celebrating our Foster City residents who are frontline and/or essential workers.
Nominate your family member, friend, or neighbor by sending us an email at recreation@fostercity.org. Send us a photo (optional) of your nominee, their name, and their occupation as we plan to recognize our resident heroes each week on our social media platforms.
Ways You Can Thank Frontline/Essential Workers:
1) Say Thank You: A simple thank you to your essential workers goes a long way. When you are making essential trips outside of the home, such as to the grocery store or pharmacy, say thank you to essential workers. Ask them how they are doing, be kind and express gratitude for their sacrifices and the work they are doing.
2) Make and Post a Sign: This is something the entire family can do together! Tape your signs to the window of your house or apartment, your car window, the garbage can or leave a thank you note in your mailbox. If you can't make your own sign, feel free to download the one we made below.
3) Support the Family: If one of your extended family members or friends is an essential worker and you are able to, consider cooking a meal for their family so they have less to worry about, pick up groceries when you make your own trip to the grocery store, order a meal from a local restaurant to be delivered to their house or pick up the phone to reach out to make sure they are ok. There are also non-profit organizations that are accepting financial donations to support frontline staff and their families.
4) Stay Home: The best thing you can do to support essential workers is to stay safe at home. Staying home and avoiding all non-essential contact with others is the best way to stay healthy and keep others healthy, including essential workers who are out serving us every day. If you must go out, follow social distancing rules and wear a nose and mouth covering to protect our essential workers.
