The Foster City Police Department is proud to unveil the addition of “PEACE OFFICER” decals, which are prominently displayed at the front of all our police vehicles.

We have a longstanding commitment to community policing which we know creates stronger bonds with people living and working in Foster City. This PEACE OFFICER program is another example of how we are working to increase trust and create partnerships with our community.

We look forward to finding ways to build upon our guardian mindset. These decals will be a reminder to our officers and community members of our commitment to providing the highest level of service.

City Manager, Dr. Peter Pirnejad, said about the program, "I'm excited about the launch of the Peace Officer program and how our Police Department continues to engage and build relationships with our community."

Going forward, all police vehicles for the City of Foster City will include the special designation “PEACE OFFICER.” The change was funded, overseen, and inspired by Police2Peace, a national charitable initiative to improve public trust in communities across the country. Police2Peace supports programs to add decals to the existing markings on public safety vehicles which read “PEACE OFFICER”.

Research to evaluate the impact of this initiative on police officers and community members is also being conducted by an independent research collaboration of NYU and UCLA, called BetaGov. BetaGov is an interdisciplinary research team which provides rapid-cycle innovation and testing support to government agencies at no cost.

The Police2Peace program, “PEACE OFFICER” designation and all accompanying research is provided at no cost to the City. Support for the Police2Peace program includes a grant from the Schaina and Josephina Lurje Memorial Foundation. Police2Peace is a fiscally sponsored project of the Peace Development Fund.
