For Immediate Release: December 18, 2019
Contact: Lieutenant Bill Sandri, F.C.P.D., (650) 286-3300
On December 16th, 2019, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a residential burglary occurred on Farragut Street while the resident was at home. The elderly male victim was sleeping when two male suspects entered the residence by shattering a sliding glass door. The victim awoke to find the two suspects in his bedroom shining flashlights. The suspects told the victim they were looking for money, ransacked the residence and then left. After the suspects left, the victim checked his home and when he did not notice anything missing he went back to bed. He did not notify the police until the following morning.
On December 17th, Foster City Police Officers responded to investigate the crime and processed the residence for evidence. Neighbors have been contacted to see if anyone witnessed anything or if anything was captured on any home security cameras.
Residential burglaries have been an on-going issue throughout the county and continue to affect residents in many cities throughout the Bay Area. Foster City has not experienced as many residential burglaries as other cities on the peninsula or the region have, but any break-in is distressing and the vast majority occur when no one is at home. This burglary is particularly brazen due to the time of night and the residence being occupied, increasing the Foster City Police Department’s urgency to identify the suspects. Foster City Police Detectives are reaching out to other agencies to obtain any information about cases with similar circumstances to assist with identifying the suspects.
The Foster City Police Department is asking residents to call the police if they notice activity in their neighborhood that is out of the ordinary or suspicious. For example, if people are seen entering a side gate who normally do not, or if an occupied vehicle is seen that is not normally in the neighborhood. The Foster City Police Department will respond to these types of incidents to determine if criminal activity is occurring. The Foster City Police Department would also like to remind residents to ensure their houses are secure by locking all doors and windows. Having a security system and cameras is a good idea to deter would be burglars. For more information about securing your residence, please call the Foster City Police Department’s Crime Prevention Community Outreach Corporal at (650) 286-3300 for a home security survey.
