In response to community feedback and alignment with State and County guidance, most recently after the Governor lifted his previous pandemic executive orders, Foster City will be loosening previously planned health and safety measures that were put in place to enforce social distancing and crowd size during the upcoming Anniversary Concert Series. As a result, fencing, temporarily installed around the meadow at Leo Ryan Park as a precautionary crowd control measure, will be taken down. Additionally, the painted squares for social distancing will be removed and those who have paid for a reservation will be refunded the $20 fee. Attendance at the event will be open to the public with no capacity limits or advanced reservations.

The safety measures were initially introduced as part of the advance planning done for the Anniversary Concert Series, which started when the City was required to adhere to the State’s tiered system. State officials offered limited guidance regarding best practices for hosting community gatherings when the California’s reopening date was announced, and the San Mateo County Health Department had advised the measures to limit crowd sizes and ensure social distancing.

Social distancing continues to be recommended at the event, although it will not be enforced. In general, people are not required to wear masks when outdoors. However, per CDC recommendations, in areas of substantial to high transmission, people who are not fully vaccinated are encouraged to wear a mask in crowded outdoor settings or during activities that involve sustained close contact with other people who are not fully vaccinated.

The concert series hosted as part of the City’s 50th Anniversary celebration in the meadow at Leo J. Ryan will begin Saturday, July 17, with a performance by Rock Monsterz. The following Saturday, July 24, will feature pop group Power Play. The Touch of Class Band, a Motown ensemble, will perform Saturday, July 31. All shows will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
