Free Electronic Waste Collection and Household Item Donation Drop-off Event

The San Mateo County Sustainability Department and the City of Foster City have teamed up to hold a Free Electronic Waste Collection and Household Item Donation Event in collaboration with Goodwill San Francisco Bay on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the City Hall parking lot located at 610 Foster City Boulevard, Foster City.

Residents must provide proof of residency in San Mateo County in the form of a driver’s license or a document with name and address, such as a utility or garbage collection bill.

Have items you no longer want or need? Don’t send them to the landfill! It is illegal to dispose of electronics in the trash. Do the right thing and recycle your personal or business electronics and computer equipment for FREE. At the same time, give your unwanted household items a second life at this free collection event. Items may be repaired or refurbished for resale or properly disposed. See item list below.

Electronic Waste Acceptable Items

Small appliance like microwaves, hair dryers, vacuum cleaners, lamps (without bulbs); radio and stereo components; phones and cell phones; fax machines, copiers, printers, scanners; televisions, VCRs, DVD players; Computer CPUs and monitors, laptops, keyboards, and hard drives; electronic video games and toys.

Household Item Acceptable Items

Clothing, shoes, accessories like scarves, ties and hats; towels, decorative items like pillows and artwork, dishes, cutlery and serving bowls/plates; children’s books and toys. Sorry, bedding and extremely soiled clothing cannot be accepted.

Electronic Waste Unacceptable Items

Batteries of any kind, fluorescent lightbulbs, tubes and ballasts; large appliances like stoves, dryers and washing machines, air conditioners and refrigerators and other items containing freon; smoke detectors; solar panels; thermostats.
