On Monday, June 29 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, the City of Foster City will be hosting a Virtual Town Hall on Community Policing. The Town Hall Meeting is intended to provide an opportunity for honest and open dialogue with the community, specifically around local community and police relations. The City Council will be there to listen to community members, alongside Interim City Manager Dante Hall and Police Chief Tracy Avelar.

In light of the recent events across the nation, this meeting aims to address local policing practices and any opportunities for improvements. The City invites the community to participate in this open forum, in keeping with Foster City’s commitment to transparency in every aspect of City government. All members of the public are encouraged to provide their input on how officers can better protect and serve their constituents.

“The use of force by law enforcement personnel is a matter of critical concern, both to the public and the law enforcement community. The Foster City Police Department remains committed to providing the necessary training, oversight, and accountability that is paramount to building and maintaining the trust of our community,” said Police Chief Avelar. Read the Police Chief’s message to the community in its entirety here.  Information on the Police Department can also be found at www.fostercity.org/police

The Town Hall Meeting will be held virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 public health concerns, as well as current restrictions on public gatherings under the San Mateo County shelter in place orders.

Interested participants may attend and participate in the Town Hall Meeting via Zoom.

Those who would like to submit their comments in writing ahead of time can email publiccomment@fostercity.org. These will be made part of the written record and provided to the City Council, but will NOT be read verbally at the meeting. The Town Hall Meeting will be broadcast and live streamed online at www.fostercity.org/fctv or on FCTV on Comcast Channel 27 and AT&T Channel 99. Following the meeting, a recording will be posted on the City’s website at www.fostercity.org/agendasandminutes.
