Construction Advisory Notice: Striping Removal to Begin Along Edgewater Boulevard for the Levee Improvements Project

Construction for the Levee Improvements Project is ongoing, which requires pedestrian and bicyclist detours onto public streets while the project is in construction. Edgewater Boulevard, from Beach Park Boulevard to Baffin Street, is part of the designated detour route on which pedestrian and cyclist usage has increased.
In March 2021, a temporary Class II Bikeway was installed along Edgewater Boulevard to provide a safer route for the larger volume of cyclists using the road. As part of the installation of the bike lanes, the existing thermoplastic striping was painted black. The reflective material in the existing thermoplastic stripes seems to come through the black paint causing it to appear white in certain angles and cause confusion for drivers. To create safer driving conditions, the thermoplastic striping will be removed by grinding.
The City’s contractor, Chrisp Company, will begin the striping removal work on Wednesday, August 4, 2021. Barring any weather-related delays, work is expected to be completed within one week. Construction hours on Edgewater Boulevard are typically between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Given current traffic conditions brought on by the current public health situation, the City will allow work between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Should traffic conditions change, work will revert to typical construction hours. During construction, lanes may be temporarily closed and on-street parking prohibited during the day of work. Access to driveways may also be restricted. Please follow posted signs and traffic control measures for safe travel through construction zone.
