Construction Advisory Notice: Enhanced Pedestrian Safety Crosswalk System (CIP 301-680)

For Immediate Release: August 7, 2019
Contact: Francine Magno, Associate Civil Engineer, (650) 286-3388, fmagno@fostercity.org

To increase driver awareness of pedestrians, the City will install Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacon Systems (RRFBs) at the crosswalks of  Beach Park Boulevard / Halibut Street and Beach Park Boulevard / Teal Street intersections. The work expected to start on or around August 13, 2019. Work is expected to be complete by the end of September.

The project will install pedestrian-activated RRFBs to supplement existing traffic signs. The RRFBs increase driver awareness of pedestrians by emitting flashing yellow warnings to drivers when activated. The work involves minor demolition, traffic signs and RRFBs installation and surface restoration. The work will occur primarily within the sidewalk. To minimize disruptions, work will take place Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Temporary parking restrictions in the roadway may occur. Any parking lane closures will be limited between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. During construction, pedestrian access through the work zone will be maintained at all times. Please follow posted signs and traffic control measures for safe travel through the construction zone.

The City appreciates everyone’s patience and cooperation for any inconveniences caused by construction activities as we strive to improve the roadways in Foster City. Please contact the Public Works Department at (650) 286-3270 if you have any questions or comments. Updated project information will also be posted on the City’s website at www.fostercity.org.
