Erckenbrack Park

Originally part of the Family Fun Series of the 1990's, the popular Sandcastle contest is back!  Grab your family and friends and register for a 10 square foot plot of beach at Erckenbrack Park and show off your amateur sand castle or sand sculpture building!  Compete against other groups for great prizes!  Groups will have two hours to build their sand castle or sculpture, and a group of guest judges will decide the winners!

Pre-registration for the event is required.  Registration is open now and the cost is $5 per plot of beach.  For an official list of rules and judging criteria, please see the document below.

Update (7/2/21):

To ensure community members can comfortably enjoy Foster City’s upcoming Sandcastle Contest, which is part of the 50th anniversary celebrations, the beach portion of Erckenbrack Park will be temporarily closed in preparation for the event. The City will be taking additional measures to ensure the beach is thoroughly cleaned and prepared before the event is held Saturday, July 10. As a result, the waterfront segment and beach section of the park will be closed from Wednesday, July 7, to the morning of the event.

Crews will spend the days before the Sandcastle Contest cleaning the existing sand at the beach and delivering additional fresh sand. After, the site will be raked, leveled, and prepared, then temporarily fenced off to preserve it for the event. Installation of temporary fencing will deter geese from being in the enclosed area. There is a permanent fence between the beach and the rest of the park, and adding the temporary fencing along the shoreline will enclose the entire beach section and make the site less attractive to geese. Additionally, fresh water from hoses will be used to dampen the sand being used for the contest.
