Bomb Threat at Wornick Day School

On January 18, 2017 at approximately 8:45 a.m., the Foster City Police Dispatch Center received a call about a bomb threat targeted at the Ronald C. Wornick Jewish Day School at 800 Foster City Boulevard. Foster City Police Department personnel were immediately dispatched and arrived at the school shortly after the original threat call. Police personnel restricted pedestrian and vehicular traffic around the school and ensured all children and staff members were safely evacuated from the building. School staff immediately sent an email message to parents indicating that due to this developing situation children should be picked up, but at an alternate nearby location. In order to ensure complete safety and thoroughness in our investigation, the Foster City Police Department requested the assistance of the San Mateo County Bomb Squad and their specially trained K9 and bomb technician, who responded to the school building to complete an exhaustive search of the grounds. Nothing suspicious was found during the search, and the building was secured at about 11:30 a.m. School staff was allowed back into the building once it was secured.
The Foster City Police Department takes bomb threats extremely seriously and investigates every incident thoroughly to ensure the safety of our community and to identify and prosecute suspects responsible for making these calls. The Foster City Police Department would like to offer the following safety tips should you receive such a call:
Remain calm.
Keep the caller on the line as long as possible, listening carefully, noting the time of the call and the telephone number the call came in on.
Ask the caller the following questions:
- Where is the bomb?
- When will it explode?
- What does the bomb look like?
- What kind of bomb is it?
- What is the caller's name?
Write down any pertinent information such as background noises, gender of caller, accents, pattern of speech, or if a computer generated voice was used.
Notify the Foster City Police Department via 911 or 650-286-3300 as soon as possible.
