Cultural Arts

Foster City is proud to bring you cultural arts programs.  Please find information below on our cultural arts programs, events, contests, and groups available to the community.

Foster City Art Gallery

Each year six to ten local artists are selected to display their work in the Foster City Art Gallery, located in the Recreation Center lobby at 650 Shell Blvd.  Gallery hours are 8am-10pm Monday through Thursday and 8am-12pm Friday and Saturday.

If you are interested in applying to be a featured artist, please contact the Recreation Center. 

Arts & Wine Festival

The City of Foster City and the Foster City Chamber of Commerce invite you to the Annual Arts and Wine Festival held the first weekend of June each year.  The festival offers family entertainment, carnival rides, midway games, and over 150 booths featuring arts and crafts, specialty food, microbrewer beer, and bio dynamic wines and more!  For more information, please contact the Foster City Chamber of Commerce at 650-573-7600 or www.fostercitychamber.com.

Polynesian Festival

Join the Parks and Recreation Department each May to celebrate at the Polynesian Festival.  You'll see Hawaiian dancers, Samoan sivas, Tongan kailao, and the rhythmic Tahitian and Cook Islands drum dances.  Visit the delicious food booths and arts/crafts tables.  There will also be outrigger canoe rides.  Admission is free.  E komo mai! Writer's Contest

The Foster City International Writers Team invites you to submit one or more manuscript(s) in the International Writer's Contest.  Prizes are award in a variety of categories.  Applications can be picked up at the Recreation Center one month prior to the submission deadline.  For more information, please visit www.fcwriterscontest.org.

Photo Contest

Submit your beautiful or interesting photographs and let expert judges take a look!  You may be a winner of a great prize in one of seven categories: Portrait, Landmark, Landscape, Photojournalism, Sports, Stilllife, or Manipulated Photo. The contest is open to youth and adults.  Applications can be picked up at the Recreation Center.

Hillbarn Theatre

The Foster City Parks and Recreation Department partners with Hillbarn Theatre to bring dramatic arts to the community.   Hillbarn Theatre is the 6th oldest continuously operating amateur theater company in the nation and is the oldest company in San Mateo County.  Hillbarn presents six performances each season, in addition to offering a Children's Conservancy program.  For more information, visit www.hillbarntheatre.org.

Peninsula Musical Arts Association

PMAA is a charitable corporation, member-run and independent of any educational or religious institution.  It sponsors the Foster City Community Chorus and Heart & Soul.  In addition to their concerts each spring and winter, these groups perform at civic and corporate events.  Visit www.PeninsulaMusicalArts.org for more information and upcoming concert dates.

Foster City Community Chorus

The Foster City Community Chorus is a mixed 80 voice adult chorus beginning its 38th season singing music from Baroque to Broadway.  Internationally renowned musician and vocal coach Paul Hurst includes music theory and fundamental techniques in weekly rehearsals on Tuesdays from 7 to 9:30pm. Residents of all cities with an ability to match a pitch are welcome.

Heart & Soul

An 18-voice performance-oriented chorale for experienced singers by audition.  The repertoire includes a broad range of periods and styles.  Monday rehearsals are 7 to 9:45pm, at Audubon School, 841 Gull Avenue, in preparation for concerts and other civic and corporate performances.  Arrange required audition in advance through www.PeninsulaMusicalArts.org.

Viva la Musica

Viva la Musica is a secular, mixed-voice avocational adult choir and orchestra led by Shulamit Hoffmann, artistic director.  They perform classical and multi-cultural choral and choral-orchestral repertoire, inspiring and educating performers and audiences with passionate and energetic concerts featuring noteworthy music from diverse cultures and eras.  New community singers welcome to join.  For membership information and upcoming concerts, visit www.vivalamusica.org.
