Residents interested in the future of housing in Foster City are invited to join a Community Workshop. This Community Workshop is part of an ongoing engagement plan to seek the community’s input in Foster City’s 2023-2031 Housing Element Update process. Those in attendance will have an opportunity to learn about the Housing Element Update, the State mandate for the City to plan for approximately 1,896 new housing units, get informed on the next steps to analyze sites available for future housing, and participate in small breakout group discussions.

The Community Workshop will be offered both virtually and in-person to provide greater accessibility for those who would like to attend either format. The virtual workshop will be held Tuesday, September 28, at 6 p.m.-8 p.m. and the in-person workshop will take place in the Lagoon Room at the Foster City Recreation Center on Thursday, September 30, at 5 p.m.-7 p.m. The content of the sessions will be the same, so there is no need to attend both. Advance registration will be required to attend either meeting, and more details on how to register are forthcoming.

“We understand housing is a critical issue in Foster City, which is why we are encouraging community participation and feedback so that the final housing plan balances the state mandate to accommodate future growth while preserving the City’s character and sense of place,” said Community Development Director Marlene Subhashini. “This first workshop will discuss the Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA) process, state law requirements, and some initial feedback on sites which can accommodate future housing needs for people of all income groups. This is a great opportunity for residents to stay engaged with our city’s planning efforts for the future.”

If planning to attend the in-person workshop, please note that masks will be required while indoors and other standard health and safety protocols must be followed. If you require childcare or any type of special accommodation, please let us know in advance. For more information, visit https://www.fostercity.org/commdev/page/housing-element-update-cycle-6
