New Traffic Signals at Various Locations

Description

CIP 301-681 continues the City’s program of improving its roadway safety and accessibility for its residents, business owners and their employees, and visitors who walk, bike, and drive in the City.  The project was put together based on City Council input and the study prepared from CIP301-664 Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Intersection Evaluation Study (Study).  CIP 301-681 is comprised of new traffic signals and related work at the following intersections:

Shell Blvd and Beach Park Blvd

This intersection currently operates as a multi-way stop controlled intersection.  Due to its proximity to Beach Park Elementary School, this intersection is being improved to help with pedestrian traffic during peak school times.

Beach Park Boulevard and Gull Avenue (North)

This intersection currently operates as a multi-way stop controlled intersection.  The Study recommended a traffic signal at this location, as it will help improve traffic operations for Gull Avenue and accessibility for bicyclists and pedestrians.  The biggest impact to traffic flow would be during the peak-morning commute hours.

Foster City Boulevard and Polynesia Drive

This intersection currently operates with stop-controlled on the minor street (Polynesia Drive).  The Study recommended a traffic signal at this location given the changing land uses along Foster City Boulevard and its proximity to Brewer Island Elementary School.  The City also receives requests for a signalized crosswalk at this location from several members of the community each year.

Edgewater Boulevard and Port Royal Avenue (North)

This intersection currently operates with stop-controlled on the minor street (Port Royal Avenue) and Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons at the crosswalks across Edgewater Boulevard.  Although the Study indicated that the warrants for traffic signal installation were not met, this intersection is included as part of the Project based on input received from the City Council meeting when the Study was adopted.

Construction is anticipated to be completed by June 2023.
